View Full Version : 2007 Charity Event

Building on the success of the 2006 event, the proposed date on the calendar for the 2007 Charity Event is the 9th December, 2007.

How does this suit everyone?

Do we need to bring it forward a bit in the year?

What charity are we going to support this year? Anyone got any ideas?

Which charity received the funds from last year's event it has slipped my memory, as most things do...

Please post you opinions.

i would like to see it in november this year to avoid the christmas shopping sprees and try and make more money for charity.

alex it was children in need last year.

i would like to see the money going to a local charity this year as it would mean the club can get a spot in the local paper before xmas.

I agree with Si, late October or November; as for the Charity, I would suggest

Strathcarron Hospice.

I know of no better Local Charity more worthy for the work they do, and they rely on donations fully for their organisation.

Most of the operatives work for free as far as I know.

I am sure we all know someone who has had dealings with them for some reason or other.

I have for two late friends and one sponsored event resulting in a significant donation to them.

Thats my sixpennuf, any better suggestions?

Due to the threads generated I have now added a poll to my thread later in the threads

At the risk of looking stupid and getting in trouble for using the wrong part of the forum - can anybody tell me what the charity Event is all about. I agree with Malky about the Hospice being a worthwhile candidate having just had two friends spending their last days in that facility.

I am sorry to "clog" up the forum if this topic has been explained in another part of the site. I claim old age as an excuse.

the charity event is what it says a days racing to raise funds for a good cause.

i would like to see us do something for a local kids charity as the club is mainly aimed at juniors

I always wondered when my first post would be? So here it goes after reading everything on this forum for the past 10 months!

Myself and Chelle do loads of work for Strathcarron hospice because she lost her brother last year and I don't think we could ever repay them for the way they treated her brother and the family, so if we don't have a definat charity for this year's event it would be great if we could consider this one and maybe a kids charity next year? I manage to get the company that I work for to double the money we raised for Children and Need last year and will hopefully be able to do the same this year.

Why not leave the Charity Event where it is an people put forward Charities they would like to see the money go to and why and the members decide at the AGM?

dave thats not a bad idea but do we put the event in motion and get it all arranged now?

Well the only thing that needs to be decided is where the money goes?

It is still a charity event and can advertise it as that.

I wasn't aware that Scott and Chelle had managed to secure an additional donation which matched ours. Great work Scott and Chell and thanks for that.

I'm not bothered in any way which charity the funds raised go to, just so long as some poor souls benefit, but if someone's boss or company is willing to double what we make, then that should be the deciding factor.

All charities, I'm sure you will agree are worthy causes, and at least we have a relationship with Chell and Scott so it may be a good idea to let them decide. If we are planning to do this every year, we can give donations to other charities in years to come.

As regards moving the date of the event, dates to the end of the year are listed below.

Dates (Sunday's) to the end of the year and what's on.
7/10/07 R1 SCC
14/10/07
21/10/07
28/10/07
04/11/07 R2 SCC
11/11/07
18/11/07 SRCA AGM
25/11/07 TUNNOCK'S WCO
02/10/07 R3 SCC
09/12/07 Original date for FRCC Charity Event

If we decided to move the date of the event, the most sensible would be the 21st October, 2007 - this may be during the school holidays though.

Regards

Alex

That was Gr8, as Scotty says I for one did not realise that, Good on yer M8 and I totally agree with your sentiments on Strathcarron Hospice as you see.

To reiterate the reasons,
They are Local,
Need the funds,
Do what none of the hospitals cater for now - Final moments Care and Support for the patient and their family

Sorry if I am shouting from my soap box on this but I feel that strongly about them being the deserving Charity this year at least, as do Scott and Chelle

As far as I know it's the 9th - there's some discussion going on in the committee section.

I've missed the last 2 weeks so I might have missed something.
