View Full Version : Inverurie Team Event

Alex Lindsay
4th January 2008, 11:43 PM
As the intro suggests, there is to be a Team Event held at Inverurie on 27th January, 2008. (that is the main reason for our charity event being cancelled to the earlier date, which in its self is now uncertain due to the possibility of the floor being re varnished).

According to the rules and regs i have seen, teams of eight drivers would be best. One needs to be driving, one marshalling, and one ready to help change over the hand out transponder and onto track as the other comes off.

Could we manage two teams, or are we best just sticking with one? Entry is £50 per team.

Who would be interested in taking part and transport sharing?

The essence of Team events is to complete as many laps as possible so teams will be rewarded with drivers who can drive consistently clean laps, not necessarily fast ones.

Not been discussed by the committee yet, but hopefully the club will sponsor any teams that go to race.

Alex.

Right whats happening with this?
Is the club going to manage to cobble together a couple of teams?
Does anyone have any idea how many people will be taking part on the day?

John Lindsay
13th January 2008, 08:45 PM
Allan and I are certainly up for it.

Alan Easson and Mark Ewing had said they were interested in going aswell.

Sorting out the teams will be the thing to think about, as I don't imagine it will be a problem to get numbers.

Cheers

John

Hi guys

Sounds like there could be a lot of interest from the club in this event.

See below the e-mail i received from Philip Hunt some weeks ago. I have tried to contact him today, and left a message on his machine requesting further info. Hopefully he will come back to me soon. I have taken his number out so he won't be inundated with calls.

Starting at 11:30, it won't be too early a rise.

Hi Alex, sounds good.

It's really a fun day with a serious element as always. We race on carpet, 19t brushed BRCA approved, 1 handout transponder per team, 1 team marshal always out on the track. The race is for 4 hours starting approx 12.15 on Sunday 27th Jan, hopefully get access to the hall at 11.30am to set up so really very little time to sort things out before the start of the race. Entry fee to be confirmed but around £50.00 per team. We don't have a limit on the number of drivers "max or min" but 8 per team would be a good number.

Any questions just give me a call or email, nearer the time I will require some details on the team, names, frequency etc.

Cheers
Phil.

Please go to grampianrcc.co.uk to find out more info about this meeting. GRCC currently have 3 teams entered, and spaces for another five teams.

The date is the 27th January, 2008 at Inverurie.

Kirkcaldy have a strong team and I think they have won it a few times. In order for Falkirk to have any chance of bringing bring home a win, we would need to put forward our best team (s)

We currently have potential commitments from the following drivers to make up a team from FRCC:

John Lindsay
Allan Lindsay
Malcolm Williams (health permitting)
Sonny
Kenny Clark
Ross Stewart (work permitting)
Mark Ewing (don't know if the boys are entering)
Alan Easson

With the addition of (sorry if I don't mention you, i am thinking of people who attend events other than FRCC ones).

Mark Strathie
Calum Kirkpatrick
Scott Farrell
Andrew Harrison
Dave Morrison
Colin & Fraser Leslie
Stephen & Angie
Mikey Dunn
Gary Dunn

We could easily put together another team.

I need some strong commitment from club members. This event will run, and I would love to see two teams for Falkirk.

Please put you name on the list and I will sort out the entries. I think the club will pay the entry fees for the teams.

I need names and two crystals from each driver who can definitely come along.

What do you think? Will I let them know we have two teams coming?

Once we have decided who is coming, we can then make up the teams, team leaders and discuss tactics and race strategies. In order to maximise our chances, please remember, there will be a strong team and a slightly weaker one. Unless we could make up two teams headed up by the more experienced drivers and then including less experienced drivers, giving each team a good chance to succeed.

Remember the winner will be the team with the most laps and that can only be attained by clean racing lines, reliable cars and duration of each racing period. The winning team will not necessarily be the fastest round the track.

Come Sunday, there is only 1 week to this event a quick response would be appreciated.

Alex (teams Manager)!!!!!!

Ross, when are you likely to know if you will be on shore or not? Do you not have a time schedule or work rota? This event is only a week come Sunday away and I would like to get the teams made up and entered ASAP.

Alex Lindsay
15th January 2008, 10:35 PM
With 8 drivers per team, running for on average, 5 minutes each, over 4 hours, would equate to 6 turns for each team member.

There would be 35-40 minutes between runs, so perhaps for safety, would it be best to have batteries charged before getting there for the first usage of cells? We will all certainly need to have cells with good duration, some will probably last more than 5 minutes!

Ross, when are you likely to know if you will be on shore or not? Do you not have a time schedule or work rota? This event is only a week come Sunday away and I would like to get the teams made up and entered ASAP.

I'm contracting just now so sometimes only get a days notice... but most places fly out either Wednesday or Thursday of the week... so I'll probably be 90% available if I've not heard anything by the Wed that week

I take it we'll have 1 or 2 reserve drivers just in case?

Alex Lindsay
16th January 2008, 09:55 AM
Morning all

I don't know if we will have reserve drivers! At the moment, we haven't got a full team of 8 drivers.

What about the juniors in the club? Could we have some commitment from them? I would love for them to compete. It will be a great day which will offer a great chance to compete and gain valuable experience.

Ask your dads to find out if you can come along! ASAP.

This needs to be arranged on the internet/e-mail as the next club meeting on the 25th is too late. Could people please phone friends and pals to give them all the chance to come along!

Guys, Can you contact Phil Hunt with your team / teams ASAP. Idealy he will put everyone on a different frequency but if this is not possible then teams will be allocated some frequency numbers. As you can imagine this needs to be worked out well in advance and not on the day, we only get into the hall 45 minutes before the start and the track needs layout etc.

See you next Sunday, George Haining

We now have 12 drivers. Would two teams of 6 be sufficient? It would be a strain on batteries etc. We need a few more to make up two good teams.

I have marked crystals from BBK for everyone. We need to sort out the teams. It's not for me to decide which driver goes in which team. Thoughts please.... We also need team names.

Can we make sure that Mark and Scott can get a lift with someone form the area. If no-one can take them, we will call in and pick them up. I need to send the teams away today so GRCCC can sort out the crystals.

Garrypd160
21st January 2008, 10:11 AM
From reading the rules, I would have thought teams of 6 would be plenty. I'm not sure how you go about picking the teams though. Its not like its a normal race where the fast guys are going to win. A lot of its going to come down to how well equipment is prepared and how long you can keep going for.

I'll be happy as long as I'm in the same team as Smally, then theres no chance of him being on track at the same time as me

Hi after talking to K.Clark and A. Easson their opinion is to run two teams of similar abillity rather than one great team and one less so. I think the thinking behind this is to have everyone heading up with a chance to win rather than turning up knowing you are in a weaker team from the start.

I prefer going out for the all out win with the strongest team available. but hey i will go with the majority!!

two teams of six drivers would work given we have a few people behind the scene helping out with car prep.

my suggestion then would be a teams called falkirk A and falkirk 1

two drivers in each team from the following 4

J. Lindsay, Colin Leslie, Alan Easson and Kenny Clark

Then M .Strathie and S. Farrell in a team each.

Finally the rest of us can be split between both teams.

The helpers can be split as well and i'm sure we can have some nice rivalry between the 'A' team and the '#1' team.

Ps i have one space in the banana bus for either Scott or Mark.

Many Regards

Mark.

I really thing to have a chance at winning we have to put our best team forward.

It all comes down to do we want a real chance of a win or not.

Hi everyone,

Mark, Scott would gladly take your available space but Mark did agree to go first so I would like to make sure both drivers have a lift. Alex, if you could pick up Mark if no one else can manage it then Scott can go with Mark Ewing

I hope someone else closer to Grangemouth can accomodate one or the other as its a fair journey for Alex and there is only a half mile between the two of them in Grangemouth.

well let me be the first to say how much fun today was!

My first endurance event, and it won't be my last. Such a buzz racing for so long.

Secondly hats off to the rest of my team, FART 2 - you guys all drove fantastically. Sure we had a few issues at the start but we did very well to pull back as much as we did. Early on the gap was over 130 laps, and by the end of time that was down to just over 60!

Thirdly, well done to FART 1 on the win. getting over 1000 laps is just amazing. A well deserved win guys!

Yeh I second what Ross said 8-) Awesome achievement by the FART 1 guys:wink: 1014 laps I think was the winning total....OUTSTANDING8-)

I have to thank my wee assistant today....Sam...well done lad:wink: We had a great system going with him pulling the pin out of the car coming in and me fitting it on to the car going out....what a team. Thats where we pulled the 70 laps back from ehh Sam:wink:
Scott, Mark, Smally, Big Dave, Neill, Gary and Ross all drove their socks off today and all worked as a team.
Smally did cause us a weeeeeeeeeeee problem when he soldered his motor in backwards though.....lol....
Once again guys......well done8-)

Well done to all the falkirk members who traveled north today to Inverurie.

Both teams did the falkirk club proud with Fart 1 and Fart 2 doing over 1900 laps between them!!

The team Managers (Gordon and Alex) and pit men (Sam and Ryan) worked tiredlessly for over 4 hours to make sure drivers turned up on time and we had cover for any breakdowns and crashes.

Fart 1 had a good day getting the win with 1014 laps, there were a few tense moments when we had to put in unscheduled pit stops due to crashes and breakdowns, the lead was down to 6 laps at one point so we took the decision to put our fastest drivers straight back out as soon as they were ready giving us a more comfortable lead going into the last 30 minutes.

Fart two also had a good day, it started with a few more pit stops than they would have liked due to some technical problems but they worked hard to get within 50 laps of 3rd place.
The young guys Mark and Scott performed well with Scott telling me on the way home he was on racing 10 times in the four hours. His serpent was looking great going round chasing a lot of usually faster drivers.

Next year we will aim to improve on this years results and go for a falkirk one two.

It was agreat team building day and i for one look forward to next years event.

Cya all on Friday

I wish it was as easy as that because the motor is soldered in correct and endbell is on the right way round and it is the can I was using all day so magnets were fine :?:?:?

Well done to everyone who travelled up to Inverurie, especially Ryan and Sam, who even though they weren't racing, came up to help out.

Thanks too to Big Alex, Gordy and Garry, who was forced into early retirement, but was a great help as our pitman/motor skimmer/general dogsbody.

Congratulations to everyone in F.A.R.T.1 for wiping the floor with all the competition.

I really enjoyed the format of the endurance event and would like to see something similar down here, maybe for our charity event, in a bigger hall.

All in all a great days racing.

Well done to all racers, pit lane crews and pit crews for a job well done. FART 1 & 2 done Falkirk Club proud yesterday.

I didn't get to leave the pit table much yesterday at all, but thoroughly enjoyed my day. I think John was on seven times and Allan six. John needed a freshly skimmed motor every time, and Allan every second time. (John is much sorer on the motors).

There was a fair bit of damage to a lot of cars yesterday especially to body shells, and on the last run, Allan pulled a screw through the chassis.

Although there were drivers of all abilities, I never heard one complaint of driving styles. There were drivers of Sam and Ryan's age taking part, and if we had known that to be the case, we could have had them racing also.

However along with Mark, Allan and Gordon they done a great job changing transponders, setting cars in the pit lane and running to get drivers ready to race at the right times.

I would also be interested in such an event on an outdoor track. Carlisle would be ideal as a venue although the pit lane is some distance away from the pitting area. It would be good to try to arrange it for the weekend of the SRCA round or similar event, with the Endurance on the Saturday and they regular meeting on the Sunday. A real speed weekend!!!!

Or of course this could be kept separate.

Let me know your thoughts. Who would also be interested?

Carlise would be great, better with a standalone weekend just in case we all kill our cars/cells/motors for the Sunday.......lets make it a 6 hour race, i'm sure it would make it even more exciting!!.

How about Stonehaven as a suggestion? Is it too big? I'm just thinking because it has a pit area i.e. to the right of the track by the fence where the I.C. cars used to pit.

Carlisle would also be cool - I want to run that track, I didn't get a chance last time due to torrential rain at the Carlisle Cup. :(

Stonehaven.....yeah 4.5 brushless for 6 hours that would be mental !!

I like the Stonehaven idea.

I'm with a few of the others in my thinking that we should try and make our charity race an endurance event. See if we can get Grangemouth sports hall or something. That would be great!

Personally, I think Stonehaven is too big to have an endurance race.

Carlisle would be a better choice for me.

I agree for once with you Ross, after all we are a Falkirk/Grangemouth Club with members from a lot of other areas.
Maybe even run it as the Charity Event with sponsors for the prizes and venue.;-)8-)

Just a thought

I think we want to do something different from the Inverurie event and outdoors at carlisle would be great. And it doesn't need to be for our charity event.

I must say thay was the first experience I had of driving in a team. The event seemed to go really smooth and chalm all day although fart 1 had some moments that dropped the gap between 1st and 2nd down to 6 laps but in the end came out clean. Fart 2 done pretty good too. It was good to see some of the younger drivers manage down with Dave and Mark, Thanks to them. All in all it was a good day and I thurrely enjoyed it.

Iv'e just noticed if you look closley to Smally's left shoulder you see Gary the ashamed (Team let down) just kidding Gary.
Good Pictures John.
My new shoes look cool eh?
