Out of interest, who would be interested in getting some proper Off Road racing going again in Scotland?

I know there are guys out there who have cars but there is very little happening in the way of a national series.

I think its time that we all got together for a meeting of some kind and put some plans in action to bring it back.

Mon the spikey tyres!

yup sounds great, but to put on a good offroad meeting involves a huge amount of work which i doubt anyone has the time for.
Might be more realistic to run a decent indoor meeting as we could do that pretty easily.

And yet you won't race on the slippy wood with the spiky tyres?

:?

At the sunday off road club we rarely ever use the wood as a racing surface as it teaches you nothing apart from how to drive if the grass track your racing on happens to have frozen over - which hasn't happened yet!
drifting on the wood is fun but useless!

I wasnt talking about a race meeting Ross.
I was talking about a meeting where everyone thats interested in Off Road racing in Scotland can come and we can try and put some kind of structure in place, like the SRCA.
Hopefully once we do that then we can move things forward and start proper racing again on a bigger scale.

Wasnt that one of the original idea's behind the SRCA, that it would be responsible for other racing in Scotland if there was call for it not just the TC series.

would love to come up an race with you guys at SDRCC but this year i'm already signed up to drive about 3500 miles going to the BRCA off road nationals. With the price of fuel we are already struggling ...... driving up to stonhaven and back is a long way!

wasn't there a bunch of guys building a track near Ayr?

Just thought I would bring you guys up to speed with Off Road in Scotland.

Central Scotland Off Roaders (http://www.csor.co.uk) started off in 2004 as a bunch of friends who used to meet at Condorat bmx track. They then moved and built a proper track at Limekilnburn. However at the end of 2006 they had to move. (new houses to be built on site !)

At the start of 2007 a new track was built at Kypeside Country Capers (http://www.kypeside.co.uk/) Initially the membership was low and only 3 guys were responsible for the massive amount of work involved. However throughout 2007 the membership grew and in September 2007 we had a mad weekend where over 20 of us completely rebuilt a brand new track including rostrum, fencing and a large amount of jumps and features. This has been further developed this year and now includes a raised pit lane for easier refueling.

We currently have over 40 members and hold the Scottish National Off Road championships for 1/8th Scale nitro buggies and truggies. We have also developed a close relationship with Northern Off Road Club (http://norcraceway.co.uk/norc/N.O.R.C/home.htm) down near Durham. They held a round of the Truggy Nationals this year and will be bringing a strong team up on 21 September to race in our final event of the year - a team endurance race.

The track does take a hammering and does require regular maintenance (grass cutting and hole filling:sad:) but we have plenty of volunteers who are prepared to role their sleeves up and get stuck in. This does mean that we currently only cater for 1/8th scale or smaller, electric or nitro. If we have enough runners in a particular class we'd be happy to lay on some heats and a final. We have ran 5ths on the track and to be honest they struggle with the jumps and corners and cause too much damage.

We also have, as you'd expect AMB timing gear. Meet every Sunday (not every weekend is a race day) from about 9.30am and stay most of the day.

2007 Truggy champ was Alun Martin and buggy was Dave Brown. Some of you may know them from Tayracers.

The good news is they have there work cut out this year to hold on to the trophies

Well things have been gathering pace at CSOR in the last week  and I am delighted to share with you what is happening.

From 2009 we shall be happy to allow fifth scales at CSOR

We are currently in the process of building a completely new, even bigger track! The new track will be constructed from gravel and covered with astro turf, no more grass, no more horrible mud! We shall be extending our rostrum again, and have a container to house the generator, compressor and will have plently of storage space for members belongings. The latest AMB timing system is in place with transpondrers to hire, and with facilities like our clubhouse with toilets and vending machines, CSOR aims to be the best RC facility in Scotland. Fifth scales owners are invited to come along and have a blast round the new track once its complete. Details of the track opening date will be posted in the near future.

The make over begins this weekend.

Second last off-road of the year this weekend at SDRCC (round 6) everyone welcome. Booking in from 09:30 with 4 rounds of FTQ and then one final, just like the old days:-P. The weather forecast looks great and it would be nice to see some new faces racing either new or old gear. My X5 was made from a old XX4 so some part are over 10 years old:-o you don't see that in touring car racing much!

Hello

Thought I would give you an update as to where we are with Central Scotland Off Roaders.

Track is currently being dug out and hard cored and the astro turf arrives in November. Lots of work ahead !

In the meantime we are running an 1/18th scale off road class in the barn and the next round is this weekend. The track can also cater for 1/10th electric buggies as well so if anyone fancies coming down you're more than welcome.

This is what we have planned for the new track (yes we do have 2 portacabins now to build the rostrum on )

Can you post the location and perhaps some directions please Dave.
I will pop through on sunday.
I fancy checking out the 1/18ths in action.

I would be interested in racing my 10th scale if there are any others racing.

Its a shame you guys race on Sunday afternoons....... there is a small bunch of us race 1/10th off road on sunday afternnoons in the hall in grangemouth, you got any pics of the track in the barn? sounds interesting.

we came through for one of your outdoor meetings a couple of years ago but we found the track was really too rough to race on..... hopefully it sounds like your new astro furf track will be less severe?

like your 3D view..... sketchup?

Wasn't sure if you guys still met on Sundays - might have to look at a few of us coming through one afternoon. No decent pics up yet, the guys have been experimenting with layouts and last Sundays was pretty good including a small wall ride.

Astro should be a lot smoother, although at the start of this year the new grass track we had was very good.

Yep did the picture on sketchup - downloaded it last Friday and can't believe how easy it is to get to grips with, for free !
