I don't check the site for a few weeks then bam! It's full of jibberish about congestion charging, Volvos having an identity crisis and track days down south :erm:

Did I miss something or has there been a serious spam attack recently?

It's not jibberish or spam; it's a new feature that Dave has brought us that lets us draw information from the BBC Motorsport Website, Pistonheads and Red RC.

It's split into a new section so it can be ignored if you're not interested in any of the content. :)

Cheers.

that's why the new posts button now has 3 pages worth of utter crap then? Why the heck do I need to know about a £700 Granada for fecks sake? Or what use at all is it knowing that car sales in Japan are down??????

If I want to see the news I look on a news site. I can't see the point in this at all... apart from you guys being very very bored

Its as easy as if you don't want to look at it don't but we have several people who like to read them so we are keeping them.

Ross - i'm going to ignore your PM.

Afraid the forum isn't just here to cater for your needs; a lot of the new features have been well received and certain stories in the RSS feeds have promoted chat between the members. They are separated for a reason; you're either in to them or your not. Read them or ignore them - it's your choice.

I have sorted the problem and excluded the RSS feed part of the forum from the New Post section.

Ross, Can you confirm this is working please?

Cheers

Good stuff Dave - it's probably best not to include the news feed in the "new posts"

Interestingly, can we include news items in the "new posts" if someone has replied to one of the news feeds?

Cheers.

I suppose I could look into it as it would be excluding a members posts in it.

Only other way is create a group and allow people who use new posts section and do not want to see rss feeds to join.

If you match this description can you post your name

I'm thinking it might be best for the mods to move a topic into racing or off topic etc. should one of the forum users reply to a RSS feed feed.

It shouldn't be all that difficult or time consuming and that way it will be picked up by the "new posts" feature.

Your the boss!

I think what I have done is hindering the inclusion of the RSS feeds into the forum as people who use new posts section are not being made aware of the comments on the posts.

We could have a separate sub forum within the RSS feed forum and move any posts that have a reply to them into that section and then I think that could be done by a scheduled task every 30 mins or hour?

Your thoughts?

Why don't we schedule it to dump any replied threads into "racing and racing equipment" for the Red RC feed?

For BBC Motorsport and Pistonheads, can it go into "Off Topic" ?

Cheers.

A new feature we have brought in is reputation.

This acts like thanks for information in a post. If someone is talking drivel then you can give them negative reputation.

All you have to do is click the http://www.falkirkrcc.co.uk/forums/darkstyle/buttons/reputation.gif symbol on the left of the post you approve/disapprove and give a comment.

You can see comments about yourself in your User CP accessible at the top of each page.

NOTE: You cannot pick on the same person twice and also you cannot give yourself a reputation

Dave
