So my car was attacted by a Glasgow Ned for New Year. The bonnet has 2 dents, creasing and a dozen or so scrapes.

How much do you think for a new bonnet for a Fiesta...

£522 !!! (including paint and labour)

Good bye to my 3 years no claims built up with the Orion. In all honesty I don't even want this car now.

Go to a scrappy! You know it makes sense. I know its a brand new car but i bet you will be able to source a bonnet in the same colour without having to travel very far.

David... cheers for the link on ebay... I've sent a question off to the seller. It might be possible for me to get one of these, have the paintwork done by a garage I know and also get them to fit it! Will let ya know.

Stuart... with all due respect, would YOU put scrap yard parts on your car, if your car was say a 6month old BMW 5 series? At the end of the day most Fiesta's mk6's that are in scrap yards are probably their due to a frontal impact/crash. I reckon finding a bonnet would be a nightmare AND I do not want a bonnet from a 02 -> 53 reg car as they are now 2+ years old and would stick out a mile from the rest of the cars paintwork.

Yes, point taken but I normally try anything to save the pennies! I also thought about it a bit more, there is the issue of stone chips. I wouldn't want that on such a new car.

May take you up on that Si...

I won't be buying one of those bonnets from ebay though ... they are not genuine Ford parts and thus I'm not interested (what can I say I'm very fussy).

Got a few other places still to go try out to get quotes - I'm hoping/aiming to see if I can get a quote for around £400 (could be pushing it I know).

At the end of the day, I don't want to have shody work done, and have a bonnet that starts rusting after the car is 5 years old (when I will probably still have it, unless I end up in a seriously good job before then).

I hope you don`t get rid of "Fiona"the Fiesta. I think it is a kool car - even though its a hairdressers car :-p (kidding!!) How are things on the quote front?

Don't call it fiona - Its a car! Fiona is the kind of name some greasey, sweaty, fat hairy biker would give to his 'hog'.

*Shudder at the image*

Car was damaged in Glasgow, surely not!

I bet you didn't pay the  wee neds  who said they would look after it for you!

At least you still have yours - the little b45tards stole my 'Vintage Fiesta Supersport' and I got the call for the police three months later saying they had found it burnt out 2 miles from where it was nicked. A few years ago that was now. - Ahhh! mind goes back to my boy racer days an the rip a full multibranch Janspeed system at speed(not just these kiddie on big bore back boxes!) and the highly illegal 150w front spots (All 4 of them - God they were bright!) - yes the alternater did cope - I think it came from a Rover.

Enough of the reminising

not just these kiddie on big bore back boxes

I hope I'm not included in that!

Have managed to get a quote for £360 - needless to say I'm much happioer with that.

You use to own a mk1 Supersport ballsie... sake they could almost be museum pieces - the very first 'hot hatch' Fiesta :D. Lovely wee cars.

Its a real shame about the NED problem in Glasgow. Glasgow has the potential to be a seriously nice city, with so much to offer for so many different people. But neds ruin it, and some people are just too frightened now when they are out on the streets for a night out.

No - how old do you think I am  Mr Linstead had one.

£360 is far more realistic!

Of course I was/wasn't (delete as applicable) meaning you B@llsie :o

and I am sure there's not that many years of a difference between us (folically speaking!)

First hot hatch - there was the 1100S and the 1300S fiesta around the same era (Pre XR2)

If only I could have afforded the the twin 40's!

Whilst I know of the existance of the 1100S, I would hardly call a car with a 50bhp, 1.1 litre 'Kent' engine 'hot' :P

I wish I owned a mk1 Fiesta... they have managed to escape neds'dom, unlike the poor mk2 XR2 (which I also like, but too many burberry caps drive around in them these days)

I was in one doing 118 and saw it more than once - yes from an 1100 engine ,it was screaming it's balls off but that's what the speedo said and it only went to 120 on the gauge.

How many 1100's nowadays could do that!

Very few!

don't want to ruin your story but old speedo gauges are notorious for being a tad optimistic, so 118 on the dial might actually only be 105 or something, but like you say still not a bad speed for an old ish car!

ford_fanatic
12th January 2006, 10:31 AM
The anorexic weight of the car may have something to do with it :P

I reckon the latest Fiesta (i.e. mine) must be coming close to twice the weight of the mk1!

New bonnet fitted and looking pretty good :D

Colour and fit both seem to blend in pretty well. I think you would need to nit pick to realise its not the original bonnet.
