What's the best Comm Lathe to go for?

I'm thinking about getting one next month, I've been looking at the two Hudy models (bearing and v guide) and the Team Orion one.

Any recomendations?

Cheers. :)

From a review I read a while back the hudy is a great lathe in any guise, but the bearing one gives a slightly better finish due to smoother rotation.

If there's a big price difference you can get the bearing guides as hop-ups, so that might be a cheaper option

surely you don't all need to buy one individually? i mean its a big expense that surely 2 or 3 friends could club together and get one to share?

The club bought our old Lathe I think Andy Dunn is the current custodian of it, it has the V blocks and was sold with a Diamond Tip cutting tool.

That might cause more problems that it solves really when you think about it. :?

First you need someone who knows how to use it and actually has the time to do motors while still trying to do other things themselves. :(

The second is who's responsibility is it to store it and bring it every week? I know I'd be a bit pee'd off if I couldn't use my share of the lathe when i really needed it because the person that took it home forgot it or didn't turn up. :x

I spoke to Stephen about it last night, we both agree that neither of us would like to "borrow" each others equipment (i.e. lathe in this case).

I'm clearing out my other R/C stuff so I should have some disposable cash by the end of the week.

I've seen a Team Orion lathe with Diamond Cutting Bit for about £130 delivered which I though was pretty good. It doesn't look a lot different to the Hudy to be honest, whether its any better or worse remains to be seen.
