I bought an Xpress motor lathe from a well known auction site. I have only ever used Hudy Lathes in the past and they have worked well, but couldn't quite afford a Hudy with diamond bit, so I opted for the Xpress Lathe - based on the Similar Eagle Racing Lathe.
The problem I am having, is that the amature doen't spin freely/smoothly on the lathe using 4 cells. The rubber band is mounted as normal in the middle of the amature. But it spins very erracticly and there is no way you are able to put the cutting bit anywhere near the comm. I noticed that it doesn't have small retainers that fix over the motor ends, to hold it in place like the Hudy and I have to put a pinion on one end to reduce the side-ways movment when the amature is spinning. Am I doing something wrong ????
I have looked at other lathes such as Eagle, Cobra and 3Racing and none of them appear to have retainers to hold the motor down whilst spinning.
The only other thing usual, is that the lathe came with an Mtronicks 27Turn rebuildable stock motor, rather than a normal 55turn lathe motor, but it seems ok, the motor does spin quickly on 4 cells, so I changed to using on 3 cells, and it slowed down to a more reasonable speed for skimming.
Any advice would be most welcome.
Thanks
Raymond.
