Cheers guys,

well here's the lowdown so far...

Got to the heliport to find that none of my gear was there. Turned up 10mins before bookin closed, then my survival suit wouldn't fit - so I almost made the chopper late!

and that's the scary bit. It runs out to the runway at a fair pace then just lifts up like it's going up a hill. Next thing you know all you can see out the front is ground and some great g-force! It was hold onto breakfast time!

The trip was ok, bit bumpy as it was raining - and to almost get blown off the helipad as you get out with the down thrust!

Inside, suit off and fall over. Yep this thing moves about a hell of alot! The roll of a thing that size is incredable for the first few days. You don't notice it as much after a few days but it makes walking on stairs interesting at times.

My bunk is really nice. My own toilet and shower, tv, sky channels, radio - all really cool. I've got the top bunk this trip and sharing with a Dane called Alfonzo. Great laugh! as everyone out here is. There's only about 30 people out just now so I've met almost everyone - and everyone seems to know me so that's good. Everyone seems to look out for you in some way which makes it all a bit easier. The good thing is that everyone out here is really easy going and you can take your time with work without anyone getting on at you.

As far as facilities go there's pleanty to keep busy with. Really good food, phones to 'the beach', Computers to play games on, a PS2, widescreen TV's, a plasma TV cinema with films every night, newspaper room, shop, huge gym and stuff like that. Sleeping is really hard with all the moving around, but it's getting better. :)

Work wise I've not done much yet. Replaced a mechanical seal on a oil pump and re-aligned it all today, and hopefully I'll be involved with the shuttle tanker cut off tonight.

Apart from all that I'm really enjoying it so far, and it can only get better as I learn my way around and who everyone is! :D

Cya all in a few weeks!

Ross

Sounds like fun Ross, no need for GT4 at home now!

I always wondered why my dad was good at my PS2 games until i relised he was a Pro out at the rig...

Have fun!

Well only 3 more days to go :D

Life out here is still ok. Weather has been allover the place. Sunny - then windy - then foggy - then stormy - then back to sunny and the thickest fog I've ever seen in the same day! It's raining now I think.

I've not been outside for a few days as I've fried my hand with boiling water and can't move it. doh :x So that's my hand bandaged up for a wee while :(

But on the good side I can't do any 'real' work like dropper trials  (sitting on a pipe 200ft above the deck watching a guage for an hour as they drop chemicals into the system to see if anything happens - like smoke or gas release - and then running away!) so I'm in the office reading manuals and printing stuff. :x

Apart from that got soaked yesterday testing the heli deck fire cannons which was fun, and very very cold :D

I'll tell you about my 'adventures' when I get back
