Hi Callum,
Yeah good idea. We can add a lot more "fields" to the member profiles.
I'll definately do something like that.
Thanks for your suggestion.
Cheers.

need to be careful here guy's
ou need to be registered with the Data Protection Authority before doing stuff like this & once that's done you must then get concent for those individuals involved

Surely if that's the case then we're already registered - we already hold this info on the club laptop.
Don't worry - the proposal is only an addition to some of the forum fields. It's up to the individual user if they want to fill in what car they've got, how many years racing etc. Just like you did when you decided to fill in your "location."
It's definately not a members database.
Cheers.

we're not registered yet, the stuff on the laptop cannot be viewed by the public. As soon as this info can be viewed by the public then we will need to register.
the penalties as far as i remember can be very severe so please don't make details such as:
addresses
phone numbers
available to the public. Doing such a thing isn't wise anyways as you'll end up getting stupid phone call etc

Totally agree John - I never want to get involved in that kind of stuff. I don't think there's any need to store those type of details on the forum, especially for all to see.
Only things like what car you drive, how long you've been racing will be added and they won't be compulsary so people have the choice not to fill them in if they don't want to.
Cheers.

Makes sense for public viewing, but what if member wants to contact member, and does not have that info at the time, could be useful then for member to member contacts other than PMs, with the option to block by the member so that the club can inform member beforehand to get permission from the member first;
Hope I am making sense, surely this could be incorporated as in other forums.
Thats my view anyway.

I'm definately not opening that can of worms - we're getting into all those issues that John warns of.
Definately don't want to do that.

Woah, woah, woah.
The idea will go ahead; it just won't have members phone numbers and addresses on it.

Malky,
we the committee do not even have the right to give out anyones address &/or phone number within said person's priory agreement. So even if you asked on a friday night I don't think we could give you the details.
Personally I don't fancy facing any sort of charges

Eh - me neither :)
I'm gonna close this one off now - I think everyone now has the gist of what's gonna happen. Some new optional fields that you can fill in on your member profile and nothing personal.

I've now set these up - see the UserCP at the top left of the menu bar. Now click on edit profile and fill out all you want.
If you choose to fill out your racing experience and car then it'll be displayed in the left hand side of all your posts.
Wasn't easy, but worth it I think for that customised feel.
