I saw that....... is it just me or does it seem like buying parts straight from Durango is the most expensive way? everything seems cheaper from microtech!

Yeah, I very rarely get anything direct from Durango, their postage is more expensive as well. I mainly use MB Models in Leeds and sometimes Microtech.

I think for complete kits though, Durango Direct is probably the best way of getting one of the first batch of 410Rs. I have been very tempted with the 410R for spares and to have a second car, however I also really like the idea of another 2wd (SV?) but I can't afford both, so I have to decide if I really need a second 4wd or do I go for 2wd ?? decisions ! decisions !

Great stuff Ross. Did the say how many they had in stock?

When building, pay close attention to shimming the diffs, make sure you get the correct washers under the diff crown gears. The 2mm pins in the driveshafts should make the transmission work better. I think I'll need to upgrade my driveshafts soon.

Set the slipper to what the kit settings suggest, I found that after running a few times I did have to tighten the slipper more, but have never had a problem and I have only replaced the slipper pads and spur gear once in 6 months of use.

Installing the electrics might take a bit of time, for me 3 hours, but I'm a bit anal about my wiring and neatness.

And remember if you are looking for a nice custom finish on the shell, let Mark know ;-)

See you in Sunday.

I have been tempted, because when you add up the cost of 2mm driveshaft and centre shafts your looking at £100 and I need other bits aswell. Having a spare car would be nice, but I'm still undecided, that cougar is tempting me aswell, what a dilemma ?

Raymond

Full set of drives shafts and centre shafts are only £50 (50% discount currently on offer) if you supply your kit number to Durango. Speak to MB as he may be able to do the offer for you without the discount code.

TD will email you a code that you can use to order your shafts if bought direct from them, if you bought kit via a shop they have enough discounts aligned to them to match the number of kits they have sold.

If you bought 2nd hand then contact TD with kit number, it's on the box.

Thanks Derek,

I emailed Durango direct, basically there not interested because I bought it secondhand. I have the box with serial number, but because I never purchased from them, the discount doesn't apply :-(

Still decided where to get the 410R, or just go with a 2wd for now. My Durango needs a wee bit of attention before next weekend, but my driveshafts should be ok for now after a rebuild.

Looking forward to the weekend, and will be good to see how Ross gets on with the 410R and compare it to ours.

Raymond.

I've been slowly building mine each evening this week, i reckon when i race it on sunday - the paint might still be wet! its a nice kit to build everything seems to fit together well. only thing i have noticed thats not great is the new centre driveshafts come with plastic sleeves which stop the pins falling out...... however with the sleeves being a slightly bigger diameter than the driveshafts they rub on the battery strap - so had to dremel a wee bit of the strap to get clearance.

looking forward to sunday - be good to be racing 4wd again

Why did you not use shrink wrap Ross, it would have saved you dremeling mate?

I have been told the shrink wrap method doesn't work - if the pins come loose they just punch through the shrink wrap...... straight into your Lipo's! I only had to dremel a tiny amount to get clearance

Looking forward to seeing the R on Sunday Ross. There isn't much clearance with the normal car and I don't have the plastic collars. I have used heat shrink in the past but don't have any left the correct size to fit Over the driveshafts, but to be honest, I've not had many pins come loose, I have used the rubber driveshaft covers to go over the centre shaft where the pin goes through, it's not tight enough to stop the pins coming loose but it keeps the CV joint clean. I would just check the pins after each run when new. I have used a grub screw in either side of the cvd barrel for extra security, not sure if the R manual already includes 2 grub screws.

Just remember to check your lipo case aswell to check it's not rubbing, but it should be fine.

I've decided to hold off for now with any more purchases, I have a holiday to save for in September but when I come back, I'll be getting a 2wd for the winter and doing some upgrades to the durango.

Just finished spending money on Team Durango's website shop replacing the plastic suspension mount that i broke yesterday, and all the other suspension mounts which may go the same way......... the Aluminium wishbone mounts vary between 12 and 15 quid each!!! and i bought all 4 just to be on the safe side!

hopefully that should be it up to a similarly bomb proof level as the top spec car now.
