Something quite rare in these parts.........
Where all the money goes and the reason I dont spend as much on the racing as I probably should.
Also have got a rare Twin Plenum Rover SD1 Vitesse for those who know their old school cars.
Just though I would share the pics as there are too many jellymould cars on the road today which personally bore the sh*t out of me!!

Cheers Si. Here is the other one to complete the set. This one has been put on before but here it is again for all the oldies out there.
Half the club members werent even born when this was built which makes me feel bloody old as I saw my first one in Laurieston in 1986.......Christ I feel old!!!

My dad had one of those Stevie;) It was Harvest Gold I think:erm: Wasn't the Vitesse tho just the 3500 V8. He also had the version before that in 2000 and 3500 V8 guise. Was like sitting in a gentlemens club with all the leather:lol: he now runs a Stilo estate.......yuck:-(

The Vitesse was a 3500 v8 but Rover sent 200 approx. to Lotus for homologation purposes so they could race the "Twin Plenum" concept legally in the British & European Touring Car Championships. As a result they then had brilliant results in 85 & 86 with what was really a twin throttle set up - which I suppose seems primitive by todays standards.
So as you can imagine they are pretty rare now - I mean when was the last time you saw an SD1 (CAR OF THE YEAR IN 1977!!!)

Stephen they do bring back the memories of yore M8,
pal of mine back in my motorcycling days got engaged and was forced to sell his triumph Bonnyville and got a Lotus Super Seven.
Not your usual one though, had a full race tuned ali rover V8 and I think a 5 speed box; he would give you a ride providing you kept your helmet on; 0 - 100 and back to zero circa 10 secs; burning rubber most of the way too.
Don't know what it cost him to buy but I know it was at least a set of tyres a month, it was an awesome piece of kit then and would still be now, especially sitting literally on the deck.
Also remember a Jaguar engined mini cooper at brands hatch practice days, the driver sat in the back straddling the engine; had a kinda high ptched voice for some reason Ha Ha, Well what it is to have experienced some of the historic cars of yester year Eh, before speed limits and when the police down south were trying out the daimler (sp250 I think ) sports car two coppers killed in a smash at Biggin hill main road strip car was not controllable round the bends from what I heard, but was still very fast in a straight line.
Back to reality cars today seem mostly boring same or similar bodies and almost the same engines, just the odd ones like the Enzo, Buggatti and the other super super cars; one can dream but can't afford to buy.
Thanks for the memory nudge Stephen;

Glad to be of assistance Malky - I agree all new cars do look the same but I suppose there is a theory that certain cars only become interesting once there volumes drop to hundreds in existence instead of 1000s.
That said anything with a V8 in my opinion will always be worth a second look!!
The sound off both the cars although very different from each other is afantastic change to your average sound from cars these days.

Or a V12;) Dad had a 5.2 XJS after the SD1. For such a huuuuuuuuuuuge car it had the smallest cabin in the world:-(
Bruce's dad, Kenny has got himself a lovely Triumph TR6 which sound smart.

Why not race stock motors all the time then Si? Nothing like pushing the boundaries and forced induction is definitely the way to do that :p

not in a V8 for god sakes
start one up and the world sounds like it going to end its a spine tingling sound in standard trim so why mess with it. some things are better left alone and classic cars are one of them

Well said that man!!
However to improve the sound a full stainless exhaust with tubular stainless manifolds enhances the sound no end - I did this on the Vitesse. I have left the RV8 as standard as with it being the 3.9 version of the V8 it has a much higher whine at top end and suits the more refined sound anyway.
Bring on the summer to see more of this type of thing around on the roads!!
